Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 3:16-28; 1 Kings 5:1-18; 2 Chronicles 2: 1-18; 1 Kings 6: 1-13; 2 Chronicles 3:1-14, 1 Kings 6:14-38
Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof. And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment. (1 Kings 27-28).
What color shoes should I wear today? Should I wear the blue top or the white one? Should I eat a sandwich or salad? These are just some common everyday decisions that we have in our lives. These choices, many times, will not alter us in any way whatsoever. However, there are more drastic cases in which our decision will alter our futures-like with Solomon and the two mothers.
How painful it must have been for both women! One woman’s child had passed, and one’s child had been stolen. King Solomon knew that both these women were in a great amount of pain. However, he still had to make a decision. He couldn’t do it alone; he needed God’s help.
When we face difficult decisions in our life, we should always ask God to guide us. This may require that, like the birth mother, a sacrifice needs to be made. The real mother of the child was so concerned about the baby’s well being that she was willing to forego her own desire of having him in order to save his life.
Every day decisions have to be made that are both big and small. God did not guarantee that they will all be easy, or come without sacrifice. The one thing He did assure us of was that if we placed our trust in Him and pray for His will in our lives that He would guide and direct us just as He did Solomon. So the next time you have a major question in your life, go to only One who has the ability to give you all the right answers.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3: 5-6).
